MP3 and Online File Sharing. 1.A: They all are file transfer system to share information. Ftp- file transfer protocol Http- hypertext transfer protocol Ssl- secure sockets layer Smtp- secure mail transfer protocol Pop- post office protocol Tcp/ Ip- transmission control protocol/ Internet protocol 2.A: They both use the HotSpot performance engine, but the server VM optimizes aggressively up-front for the benefit of long-term performance, while the client VM defers a lot of optimization to favor faster startup and a smaller memory footprint. 3.A: I use the music downloading system called Kugoo. It's very useful that it's a P2P file transportion sysytem. First, I download the software of Kugoo from its website, then set up it in my computer. When I want to download music, usually I will type in the name of the song and search, then klick on one of the list. It will download automatically, when it finished, I can listen to that song. Sometimes I will go find the list of song that people put on Kugoo and klick on them to download. 4.A: a)Napster (Napster was Fanning's nickname in high school, because of his hair) is a different way to distribute MP3 files. Instead of storing the songs on a central computer, the songs live on users' machines. This is called peer-to-peer sharing, or P2P. When you want to download a song using Napster, you are downloading it from another person's machine, and that person could be your next-door neighbor or someone halfway around the world. b)The simple fact is that P2P is here to stay, regardless of legality disputes. Since the introduction of Napster, many other similar utilities and Web sites have appeared. And most of them do not limit file sharing to just MP3s as Napster did. Some, like Gnutella, allow virtually anything to be shared. c)BitTorrent is a protocol designed for transferring files. It is peer-to-peer in nature, as users connect to each other directly to send and receive portions of the file. However, there is a central server (called a tracker) which coordinates the action of all such peers. The tracker only manages connections, it does not have any knowledge of the contents of the files being distributed, and therefore a large number of users can be supported with relatively limited tracker bandwidth. The key philosophy of BitTorrent is that users should upload (transmit outbound) at the same time they are downloading (receiving inbound.) In this manner, network bandwidth is utilized as efficiently as possible. BitTorrent is designed to work better as the number of people interested in a certain file increases, in contrast to other file transfer protocols. 5.A: We can search some music songs on the internet and then we can listen to them from an online music store. They’re free. 6.A: Some other people use the Emule and Kugoo, They are both P2P system to transport media files, the advantages are you can easily search on the P2P server to find your favorite media files.ring |

3. Who’s responsible for security? h) Tell me three reasons why people are mad at software companies for weak security. 1. Software companies create these environments that are just so unstable. We take it for granted now that computers will crash several times a day. 2. We take it for granted that you have to be afraid when you get an email attachment; you have to figure out where it came from. 3. "Is it worth it to open this spreadsheet where I might blow up my computer?" We've developed a kind of culture of a passive, beat-down fear. . . . If you got in your automobile and every day it would stall several times, and every once in a while it would just sort of randomly explode into flames and destroy all of your personal belongings, like when your computer crashes and you lose your files, you would be really mad, and furious at the car manufacturer. . .

Now, on the internet, there are other dangers, because your computer could be a launching pad for other attacks. So people might want to break into your computer to use your computer as a site to break into something further on. e) Tell me one danger for corporations For a corporation, the dangers are very great, and we see it again and again. We see major web sites that are hacked, and they're brought down for six, eight, ten hours. This affects their bottom line if they have a revenue model. This greatly affects their credibility, and I don't know if they've recovered yet from that. f) Tell me one danger for governments For a government, the dangers to it are as great as a corporation. When the major web sites that are hacked, the secret document would be brought outside, and it is a risk to the national defence. g) Tell me one danger for YOU For me, I think there is nothing worthy to be stolen by the hackers, so if my computer is hacked, it would be a site that be used to attacked further more by the hackers.
